The direct inspiration was the British legend of the ravens of the Tower of London, whose presence is said to keep the kingdom standing, combined with a renewed look at the preserved birds kept in the display cases of the Museum of Natural History.
In these textile compositions I use the raven as a universal metaphor rooted in Greek, Norse and Slavic mythology: a guide between worlds, a witness and an observer of the boundary between life and death.
Through the contrast of black, white and an unsettling red, geometric layouts and spiral forms, I tell a story about the illusory nature of human perception and the blurring line between reality and its image. The textiles move away from biological literalness towards a poetic metaphor of transience.
